A study done last year on health care workers in six different countries, all of whom had serious exposure to Covid-19, showed that of those who contracted Covid-19, the people who ate a primarily plant based or pescatarian diet had much lower odds (73%) of moderate to severe disease, compared to the folks who ate higher protein diets.

Our food choices impact our microbiome, which is not surprising, as everything we eat passes through there on its way along our digestive tract. Sugary foods, unhealthy oils, highly refined and processed foods, all tend to be inflammatory, and they negatively impact our blood sugar and can alter our immune cells. On the other hand, a healthy plant or primarily plant based diet positively impacts our microbiome and the markers just mentioned.
